Abstract/Summary:
Many water distribution systems that do not provide treatment according to the established regulations serve unsafe water. This research evaluates how, with experimental data and the implementation of the necessary changes, such systems can be brought into compliance with the amendments to the Safe Water Drinking Act (SWDA).; I conducted a Comprehensive Performance Evaluation (CPE) to identify the combination of factors that could limit the performance of a water treatment plant. The daily data was compiled from process control and quality of water data.; I evaluated the results by means of the application of the requirements stipulated in each of the Potable Water Regulations based on the Control of Microbiological Polluting Agents and Disinfection's By-products Rule. I conclude that the systems studied fulfill the basic requirements of the SWDA and part of the new amendments, assuring sound risk control in the protection of the public.
