Abstract/Summary:
Modal Analysis is a powerful tool that is widely used today in the evaluation of structural design. With the advances in computer technology, finite element analysis has become a common numerical method for a wide range of complex engineering problems including modal analysis. The use of vectors and matrices is of fundamental important in modal analysis since with matrix notation complex procedures can be expressed in a compact form. The purpose of this thesis is to study and present modal analysis in matrix form to highlight the procedures that are common to the implementation of structural analysis as well as the general finite element analysis. Single and multi-degree of freedom systems are discussed in the thesis. Examples solving by NASTRAN and I-DEAS are also included.
