This thesis is an architectural proposition for high density housing in Gaborone, the capital city of Botswana. It explores the possibilities and benefits of learning and translating village patterns in a dense urban context, through an urban scheme and a building program that are respectful and rooted to the culture and tradition of a people and a place.;This investigation formulates and tests a broad set of guidelines for addressing this particular site and context in their current condition. The implications of the investigation speak to a broader set of vacant sites and deserted urban contexts throughout Africa. |
