Abstract/Summary:
As modern day machining and manufacturing becomes more complex and demanding there is an increased need for cutting tools with material properties like high stiffness and damping.;This thesis research report documents efforts made in the realization of a new composite end mill tool. This new composite end mill tool aims to employ a judicious combination of materials to produce an end mill that possesses the desired properties for modern day cutting. In addition, the new composite end mill seeks to be an easy to use and cost effective tool that addresses the need of modern cutting tools.;Through careful design, modeling and extensive testing documented in this thesis research, the new composite end mill is tested and evaluated to understand its response and performance in an ideal working environment. The response of the new composite end mill is then compared to existing end mill designs and improvements are recorded.
