Abstract/Summary:
Materials for assessing the spontaneous speech of aphasic patients have typically used pictures of middle class Caucasians As the diversity of the American populace grows, the validity of these stimuli can be questioned. The purpose of this study was to determine if there were preferential differences between African American (AA) and Caucasian American (CA) adults when presented with picture stimuli depicting scenes that included persons of either AA or CA appearance. Data were collected to determine preferences, and discourse analysis was completed to assess for differences between stimuli and between participant groups.
