Terra Australis

To speak of the ineffable through story is nothing new. The mythical southern continent terra australis was conceived to mirror and balance the "northern" Old World; this unknown land served as a means of understanding the known. Today terra australis has been replaced by the smaller but more tangible Antarctica. Now fully mapped, it nonetheless appears on few modern mappae mundi. The transposition is complete: a once-accepted fact proven false, the factual land forgotten. With this legendary continent discounted, how are we to make sense of our world? Is there room for territory newly-made and unexplored? This collection of prose poems addresses these questions by invoking both the veracity of that world in which we no longer believe, and the desolate beauty of the one we so often ignore.
