The bilateral trade between Thailand and China has a long history. At present, the trade between Thailand and China is developing in full swing. On the one hand,Thailand has become a comprehensive strategic partner of China, and on the other hand,Thailand also relies heavily on Chinese imports.Since both countries are big agricultural countries, agricultural products are undoubtedly an important part of bilateral trade between the two countries. However, due to subjective and objective factors, agricultural trade between the two countries inevitably encounters some difficulties and challenges in the development, and it is necessary to adjust and upgrade their trade policies to promote and improve their agricultural production. Therefore,it is necessary to deeply analyze and study the situation of bilateral agricultural trade between Thailand and China, enhance the depth and breadth of cooperation in agricultural trade between Thailand and China, and promote mutual benefit in bilateral trade. This paper firstly enumerates and analyzes the theories of trade competitiveness and complementarity, such as Adam Smith’s absolute superiority theory, comparative superiority theory, national competitive superiority theory, etc.Secondly,it probes and analyzes the current situation and characteristics of Thai-Chinese trade development, and mainly probes into the current situation of Thai-Chinese agricultural trade, according to the statistics of China’s customs, summarizes the basic situation, trade situation and overall scale of trade of agricultural products between Thailand and China. The statistics show that the trade between the two countries is gradually developing and the volume of bilateral trade is increasing year by year.In the aspect of agricultural products trade,Thailand currently holds a certain superiority, but this superiority is gradually shrinking.Thirdly, adopts empirical analysis method to analyze the competitiveness and complementarity of agricultural trade between Thailand and China.Based on international trade analysis theory, such as national competitive superiority theory, explicit comparative superiority index, market similarity index, explicit comparative superiority index, net export competitiveness index, etc.are adopted to analyze, the results show that in terms of comparativesuperiority,Thailand’s comprehensive international competitiveness of agricultural products is slightly stronger than China’s.China’s comparative superiority is relatively higher in some agricultural products, but the comparative superiority of some of them has declined in recent years.Competitive agricultural products between two countries are mainly meat, egg products and fish.In the aspect of agricultural trade complementarity, there is certain complementarity between the agricultural products of Thailand and China due to their different resource endowments. Finally, according to the problems found in the empirical analysis about agricultural trade between Thailand and China, such as the obvious trend of agricultural trade category concentration, market concentration and low complementarity, etc, puts forward some strategies and methods to optimize the current situation of agricultural trade between the two countries, such as adjusting the export structure of agricultural products of the two countries, promoting the complementarity of the superiority and demands of agricultural products of the two countries, accelerating the globalization and diversification of agricultural export markets, and reducing trade barriers.
