Ancient towns are the cultural heritage with regional characteristics, the witness to the development of Chinese culture, and the gem that has been washed and practiced in thousands of years of history. In recent years, the vigorous development of tourism in ancient towns in China has greatly promoted the social and economic development of ancient towns, especially in the Yangtze River Delta region.Relying on tourism, ancient towns in the region have become tourist resorts where more and more tourists clean their minds and return to the nature,by exhibiting their simple, elegant, quiet and tranquil,or their exquisite, colorful and magnificent features.Taking Bihu Ancient Town,Lishui,Zhejiang Province with typical characteristics of ancient villages in Jiangnan as the research object, this paper, compares the similarities and differences of their perception of tourism impact by starting from the perspective of residents and tourists,so as to determine the key factors of residents and tourists' perception of tourism impact in the tourism development of Bihu Ancient Town. Thus, the protection and tourism development of Bihu Ancient Town has been improved and the sustainable development of tourism in Bihu Ancient Town has been realized.Besides, this paper uses questionnaire survey method to carry out the site investigation on residents and tourists to study the impact of tourism on economy, social culture and ecological environment. The results show that: First, from the perspective of residents, the economic benefits of tourism development in ancient towns are the most important benefit objectives.Although most residents have the obvious negative impact perception of social culture and ecological environment, they still support tourism development. At the same time, residents are passive participants in tourism development and it is difficult to make suggestions.Second, from the perspective of tourists, the environmental benefits of tourism development in ancient towns are the most important benefits, while the perception of economic impact is relatively slow.At the same time, tourists have a strong guiding role in tourism development, but they are also passive participants and have insufficient motivation to participate in local tourism development.Third, residents and tourists have various perceptions on the economic, social, cultural and environmental impacts of ancient town tourism. The same point is that all attentionsare paid to the environmental impact of tourism. The difference is that residents pay more attention to the economic impact while tourists pay more attention to the environmental impact. Finally,as for the problems in the tourism development of Bihu Ancient Town, some corresponding suggestions are put forward in order to provide some reference and inspiration for the sustainable development of ancient town tourism.
