Total factor productivity(TFP)has become a key factor affecting economic growth.Economic growth has gradually changed from extensive mode of growth into an intensive growth mode with the core of total factor productivity as the core. There are obvious regional differences in the growth rate of total factor productivity in different regions of China. With the support from the state to the economic development in Southwest China, the southwest border area has made rapid progress in economic growth, and made breakthroughs in technological progress, social development and environmental improvement. However,it has not fundamentally broken away from the traditional economic development mode. The southwest border areas in border areas and ethnic minority areas, poor areas as a whole, the level of economic development and infrastructure construction are relatively backward, research on total factor productivity and economic development in the region, related to the border area of people's livelihood security and social stability, but also related to the effective implementation of the National Southwest economic support policy,so it has great strategic significance. We hope that in this context, through empirical research attempts to explore the impact of economic growth in Southwest China's border areas as well as a source of income gap on TFP in Southwest China's border areas, determine the southwest border region economy is intensive and extensive reliance on resources into growth or efficient growth, and provide reference for the future economic growth in the southwest border areas path. The research work and main contributions of this paper are mainly focused on the following aspects:First,we try to divide the income gap into the total factor productivity estimation model, and estimate and analyze the total factor productivity considering the income gap in China's relatively backward southwest border areas, use the Malmquist index and Malmquist-Luenberger index method of DEA model to measure the factor productivity growth of 11 border southwest area(city).Second,by considering the total factor productivity and the traditional income gap comparison does not consider the total factor productivity of the income gap,we find the income gap between the total factor productivity, technical efficiency and technological progress have varying degrees of decline, which does not consider the income gap greatly overestimated the TFP in southwest china. This also reflects the poor fairness of the economic growth in the southwest border area.Although the overall GDP growth rate is fast,it makes the income gap bigger and bigger. There is still a long way to go to achieve the coordinated development of urban and rural economy.Third, the empirical test on the total factor productivity of income gap under the constraint of the southwest border ethnic areas, select the empirical test of the rate of urbanization, regional economic openness, industrial structure and income gap between urban and rural areas as the impact factors for panel data model. The test results show that the urbanization rate is negatively correlated with the growth of TFP,and the openness of the regional economy, the industrial structure and the income gap between urban and rural areas have a positive correlation with the growth of TFP.This study provides a theoretical method and analysis framework for the research of TFP quantitative analysis from the perspective of inclusive border of southwest ethnic areas, contribute to a more accurate assessment of the situation of China's southwest border national economic growth, promoting economic in southwest frontier minority area of our country to develop with high efficiency, rapid and coordinated.
