After the explosive growth of previous years, today's third-party payment industry is gradually transitioning to a regulated development period. As a competitor to the development of third-party payment platforms, commercial banks are now becoming more stable on the path of financial innovation. This paper explores the nonlinear relationship between the three by establishing a threshold model that uses the profitability of commercial banks as the explanatory variable, the scale of third-party payment transactions as the core explanatory variable, and the risk tolerance of the commercial bank as the threshold variable. The research results show that the third-party payment has a significant effect on the profitability of commercial banks based on the threshold effect of commercial bank risk as a threshold variable. When the risk-taking of commercial banks is lower than the threshold,third-party payment has a slight inhibitory effect on its profitability;when the risk-taking exceeds the threshold, the suppression of third-party payment on the profitability of commercial banks is significantly enhanced. At the same time, the study verifies that whether it is a full sample commercial bank or a large commercial bank,a joint-stock commercial bank,or a city commercial bank, there is a significant positive correlation between risk exposure and profitability. The study also found that the impact of third-party payment on the profitability of commercial banks has a two-way effect. On the one hand,third-party payment has a significant inhibitory effect on the profitability of commercial banks; On the other hand,third-party payment has played a positive role in improving the profit structure of commercial banks to a certain extent. |
