Quality Management Practices And Inter-organizational Project Performance

To adapt to the rapid changes in the market,inter-organizational projects have become an important choice for enterprises' innovation and production activities.Performance is an important concern in inter-organizational projects.As an important approach to improving inter-organizational project performance,quality management practice has been valued.However,the current literature on the relationship between quality management practices and inter-organizational project performance has not reached a consistent conclusion.Inter-organizational projects are different from general projects for that members in inter-organizational projects come from independent organizations.Maintaining the cooperation and consistency in inter-organizational projects is an important challenge.Governance mechanisms can improve cooperation and maintain inter-organizational consistency.Hence,can governance mechanisms affect and how to affect the relationship between quality management practices and inter-organizational project performance as contextual factors?To solve this problem,this paper adopts the empirical research by analyzing 265 valid data samples from central and southern China from contingency perspective.The conclusions are got as following:(1)People-related quality management practices and process-related quality management practices have a significant positive effect on inter-organizational project performance.And people-related quality management practices affect inter-organizational project performance through process-related quality management practices.(2)Contract governance can moderate the direct effect of quality management practices on inter-organizational project performance,and contract governance can also moderate the mediating role of process-related quality management practices.The moderating effect of contract governance demonstrates the way to strengthen the effect of quality management practices in inter-organizational projects.And it is helpful for improving inter-organizational project performance.However,the non-significant moderating effect of trust is related to the temporary characteristics of inter-organizational projects.
