Research On The Coordination Of Urbanization Development For Small Towns In Southwest China

Under the background of deepening urbanization,the coordinated development of urbanization for small towns will play an important role in creating a coordinated regional development pattern,coordinating urban and rural development,and even solving the problem of imbalanced and insufficient development at the new era.Constrained by complex terrain,poverty and ecological fragility,the long-term uncoordinated development of urbanization for small towns in Southwest China has become a typical weakness in China's urbanization process.To realize the coordinated development of urbanization,the priority is to understand its coordination scientifically.However,the coordinated development of urbanization for small towns in this region has its inherent complexity and particularity,which cannot copy the “asynchronous,uncoordinated and mismatched” development mode of cities.And existing studies have shown that failure to correctly understanding of the coordination is the primary cause of the uncoordinated development.Therefore,it is important and necessary to research the coordination of urbanization development for small towns in Southwest China.This paper studies the coordination of urbanization development for small towns in Southwest China from systematic perspective.Firstly,based on the literature research,the connotation of urbanization coordination for small towns is defined,and the characteristics and current situation of urbanization development for small towns in Southwest China are analyzed with field research.Secondly,the indicator system of urbanization development is established based on system analysis,literature research and empirical screening.Then,based on coupling coordination degree model,the coordination evaluation model is constructed from four dimensions of population urbanization,economic urbanization,spatial urbanization and ecological urbanization.Finally,6 sample towns are selected to carry out the empirical research,and based on empirical research and field research,the corresponding suggestions are put forward.Through the above research,the conclusions are drawn as follow: 1)The coordination evaluation model is feasible and effective for understanding and evaluating the coordination of urbanization development for small towns in Southwest China,which includes 28 indicators of 4 subsystems of population,economic,spatial and ecological urbanization.2)Overall,the coordination of urbanization development for sample towns shows a bipolar distribution,that is,there are half of the sample towns with good coordination,while other half of sample towns with very low coordination.3)Two “dislocation” phenomena are shown in the coordination of urbanization development for sample towns: one is the mismatch between the status quo and the development trend,which reflected as the towns with better coordination show an obvious downward trend,while the towns with low coordination show an upward trend;the other is the asynchronization of urbanization development level and coordination,which reflected as the urbanization level of some towns rises year by year,but its coordination decreases year by year.4)For four types of small towns divided from the overall development level and coordination,the differentiated paths of coordinated development of urbanization are proposed.The HLHC-type towns can adopt the path of “continuing the status quo and preventing risks”,and enhance its endogenous driving force.The HLLC-type towns can adopt the path of “breaking through the key points”.The LLLC-type towns can adopt the path of “identifying and upgrading short boards”.The LLHC-type towns can adopt the path of “comprehensive and coordinated promotion”,improve infrastructure and relieve social pressure.The research results provide a tool and method for scientifically understanding the coordination of urbanization development for small towns in Southwest China,and help to reveal the development status and promote the coordinated development of urbanization of small towns in this region,and provide references for the development of other regions.In addition,this paper expands the research perspective of the coordination of urbanization development,and enriches the relevant theoretical study of urbanization development of small towns to some extent.
