Measurement And Analysis Of Total Factor Productivity In Henan Province

Henan Province is located in the combination of central and western regions and coastal areas.It is the middle zone of coordinated development of regional economy from east to west.Its economic development and social construction play an important role in the national development strategy.Since the reform and opening up,the total economic volume of Henan Province has made great achievements,but the quality of economic growth has been controversial.The research on the quality of economic growth can be analyzed from the perspective of total factor productivity.Taking Henan Province as the research object,this paper makes an empirical analysis on the difference of total factor productivity growth between the whole and the region of Henan Province by drawing on existing research results,and on this basis,analyses the main factors affecting the growth of total factor productivity in Henan Province.Firstly,this paper uses DEA-Malmquist index method to analyze the current situation of total factor productivity growth in Henan Province from 1979 to 2017.The empirical results show that:(1)Between 1979 and 2017,the growth of total factor productivity in Henan Province has been increasing and decreasing alternately.The average growth level of total factor productivity is 0.9%,The main reason for the improvement of total factor productivity is significant technological progress.(2)TFP has been improved in Zhengzhou,Luoyang,Hebi,Jiaozuo,Puyang,Xuchang,Pingdingshan,Anyang,Luohe,Sanmenxia,Jiyuan,Kaifeng and Xinxiang.(3)The average growth rate of total factor productivity in the Central Plains Urban Agglomeration is the highest,followed by North Henan,Western Henan and Southwest Henan,and Huanghuai,showing a decreasing trend from north to south.(4)The difference of total factor productivity growth between economic regions and administrative regions in Henan Province does not show a consistent narrowing trend.The main reason for the difference of total factor productivity among regions is the difference of technological progress.Secondly,the multivariate linear regression model is adopted to analyze the influencing factors of total factor productivity growth in Henan Province.Six indicators are constructed,including information level,government intervention,ownership structure,scale factor,openness to the outside world and technological innovation.The results show that information level,government intervention and technological progress have positive effects on the growth of total factor productivity.Ownership structure,scale factor and openness to the outside world has a certain inhibition effect on the growth of total factor productivity.Finally,the main research results of this paper are systematically summarized,and on this basis,the following suggestions are put forward: increasing investment in technological progress,improving efficiency of technological utilization,and developing regional cooperation.It is hoped that these suggestions can play a guiding role in improving total factor productivity in Henan Province.
