In recent years, backpack travel, which is different from mass tourism, has emerged and even become a new fashion. In previous studies, anthropological research paid too much attention to the behavioral characteristics and motivation of tourism individuals.Tourism economics was mainly based on the needs of tourism market and the development of tourism products. Both did not pay attention to the structural factors and lack of the exploration of the internal mechanism of the impact of tourism experience on tourists. Therefore, this study starts from the self-identity in the context of modernity, and explores the self-practice path in the process of backpacking through the analysis of backpacker network narrative. The framework of this paper is as follows, the first chapter mainly introduces the background of the topic and the significance of the research, and reviews the research results of backpacking.Based on this, the research design is proposed. The second chapter mainly discusses the motives of backpacking, and proposes that backpacking is an attempt to solve the selfidentity crisis. The third, fourth and fifth chapters are the main part of this study. After discussing the relationship between tourism and self-identity.,the third chapter analyzes the different selfexperiences of backpackers in the tourism world, including the physical, interpersonal and spiritual aspects of backpackers in terms of action, environment and social interaction, the impact of values and other aspects. The fourth chapter focuses on the analysis of the backpacker's self-presentation strategy in the context of the network age.The fifth chapter studies the different "attributes" of backpackers, divided into three types,"Transitional","Professional" and "Lifestyle" backpackers, for different backpackers, their backpacking has different meanings for self-development.The sixth chapter is the summary and discussion part.It a points out the impact of backpacking on their selfidentity, which helps young people symbolically solve collective dilemma and acts as a pressure relief valve. At the same time, the process of travel is also a process of self-education.In this process, they also get subjectivity experience, and establish their own identity by forming differences with other people's life paths and establishing their own unique identity.Enjoy the sense of belonging from backpacking tourism group and obtain the corresponding social capital in the subcultural field. On the other hand,it also brought some negative effects such as adapting problemes. For some backpackers, they become kind of individualism and nihilism finally.Because what they pursue is just a romantic modern belief, while ignoring the real self is the product of social construction.
