Shared bicycles have developed rapidly in recent years and have become the third mode of public transportation after buses and subways.Under the background of“Green Travel”,“Last Mile” and the overload of urban traffic, shared bicycles quickly opened up the market with the advantages of low cost, convenience and low carbon, which changed people’s traditional travel modes and played a important role in green transport. The combination of shared bicycles and tourist attractions is becoming a trend because shared bicycles can improve the accessibility of tourist attractions and provide visitors with a cheaper 、 freer and healthier way to explore the attractions. However, there are also some problems in the development of shared bicycles, such as unreasonable station setting, weak supervision, user violations and so on,which have brought negative impact to tourism. Therefore, quantitative analysis of the impact of shared bicycles on the number of tourists in attractions can provide a basis for the optimal layout of the station and the operation of the scenic spots, and maximizing the advantages of shared bicycles.Based on the existing literature, this paper further studies the impact of shared bicycles on the number of tourists in attractions by using the difference-in-difference model.Using the review data of Chicago’s attractions from Tripadvisor website and shared bicycle data from Divvy System, this paper studies the impact of setting of bicycle station, characteristics of station and usage of shared bicycle on the number of tourists in attractions, and compares the impact of shared bicycle on the number of tourists in attractions with different characteristics. The main contents and results are as follows:(1)Study on the impact of the setting of bicycle stations on the number of tourists.Taking the number of tourists as dependent variable, the net effect of shared bicycle on the number of tourists is studied by using difference-in-difference model. The study found that the setting of shared bicycle station has a significant positive effect on the number of tourists, and the impact has time lag.(2)Study on the specific impact of shared bicycles on the number of tourists.Taking the number of tourists as the dependent variable, the station characteristics and the usage characteristics of the shared bicycle are used as independent variables, and the continuous difference-in-difference is adopted, the study found that the number of shared bicycle stations near the attraction, the average distance of stations, and the station capacity have significant impact on the number of tourists.the number of shared bicycle trips near the attraction、the efficiency of shared bicycle use has a positive effecton the number of tourists.(3)Study on the different impact of shared bicycle on different attractions.Using the triple difference model,we studied the difference in the impact of shared bicycles on the attractions that are suitable or unsuitable for cycling, and attractions that are in or not in congested community area. The study found that the setting of shared bicycle station has a greater impact on attractions that are suitable for cycling, and has a greater impact on attractions that are in congested community area. |
