As a primary industry, agriculture has always played a pivotal role in the development of the national economy. The contradiction between human and land relations and the inefficient output brought about by small-scale farming have become two important factors affecting the development of China’s agricultural modernization. Therefore,it is imperative to promote the transformation of agricultural production and management methods and help agriculture to modernize, scale and specialize. In recent years,in the practice of promoting the development of agricultural modernization,Chongzhou City has explored the “agricultural joint venture system” with the main body of “Land Share Cooperative + Agricultural Professional Manager + Agricultural Comprehensive Service”,and has achieved good results in the development of cooperative economic organizations. The result has become a model for competing learning in the country. However, what factors will affect the participation of farmers in land share cooperatives? What is the impact? These require specific analysis and research.Based on the willingness of farmers to participate, this study collects information through research visits, summarizes the operation mode and development status of Chongzhou Land Cooperatives, and puts forward hypotheses based on the influence of theory and literature on the willingness of farmers to participate in land share cooperatives.Based on the survey of 237 farmer households in Chongzhou City, the normative descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the factors affecting farmers’ willingness to participate. The conclusions are as follows:First, among the individual characteristics of farmers, the cultural level of farmers has a significant positive impact. The higher the cultural level of farmers, the deeper their understanding of cooperatives and the greater opportunities for nonagricultural employment,so they will have a higher willingness to join.Second, among the characteristics of household production and management, the proportion of household agricultural income has a significant negative impact, and the proportion of household non-agricultural labor has a significant positive impact. It shows that the lower the proportion of agricultural income in the family, the weaker the economic security function played by the land, and the more favored the non-agricultural income,so the land is more active.Farmers with a high proportion of household non-agricultural laborers are more willing to join the landshare cooperatives because they are unable to maintain the cultivation of their own land because of the insufficient labor force at home.Third,in terms of the perception of land-share cooperatives, farmers have a significant positive impact on the level of understanding of cooperatives.Farmers who are more familiar with land-share cooperatives will have persistent expectations and thus increase their willingness to join because they have a clearer understanding of the advantages of land-share cooperatives.Fourth,in the characteristics of government behavior, the degree of government support and promotion efforts have a significant positive impact. The government’s emphasis on building and publicity and the increasing level of participation will make farmers’ willingness to join the community stronger. The government plays a role in safeguarding the formation and mode operation of the land share cooperatives. On the other hand, the promotion and introduction in the publicity process can improve the farmers’ awareness of the cooperatives and change their concepts.Fifth, all variables in the social security characteristics are not significant. This may be related to the current level of local social security. Finally, based on the perspective of farmers’ participation in behavior selection, this paper puts forward the policy recommendations of people-oriented to maintain the main status of farmers, increase education investment to improve the cultural level of farmers, and pay attention to the role of government to enhance farmers’ understanding and trust.
