Video games are going digital,there is no question about it.The sales of digital games are steadily increasing,and more and more manufacturers focus on the digital market,and even a considerable part of games can only be purchased online.The game platform is the product of the combination of electronic games and digital distribution,which is also the focus of this paper.In this paper,the world's largest PC gaming platform Steam as the research object,through the study of Steam gaming platform,platform compared with the traditional entity retail game to find out the advantage,and analyzes the key problem of present in the game platform and classification,find out the shortcoming of digital game platform,as well as the opportunities and threats of the future development,from the perspective of macro understanding the composition and structure of PC gaming platform.In addition,this paper conducted an empirical analysis on the sales data of 18 popular games on Steam platform and selected out the key factors affecting the sales volume by combining with relevant literature,namely,the number of game players,the highest number of simultaneous online players,the average game duration,price and holidays.Moreover,In addition to the empirical analysis of the overall sample,this paper also divided the overall sample into three categories: introduction game,mature game and classic game according to the length of the game release time for comprehensive empirical research,the results showed that the influencing factors of all kinds of games sales exist certain differences,and made some explanation and summary according to these differences. |
