| With China’s economy moving towards a stage of high-quality development,pushing regional coordinated development has become an important driving force for accelerating the change of extensive economic growth pattern to intensive pattern.For the purpose of regional coordinated development,the central and local government has promulgated a series of regional cooperation plans to promote regional economic integration activities in different regions and at different levels.This process has promoted the regional division of labor and cooperation,pushed the adjustment and optimization of industrial structure,which had a profound impact on regional economic development.In the transition period,it is of great practical and theoretical significance to discuss the influence of government-led regional economic integration on the transformation of economic growth pattern.This paper theoretical analyzed and empirical tested the impact of the government-led regional economic integration on the transformation of economic growth pattern,and discussed its internal influence mechanism from the point of the industrial structure optimization.Theoretically speaking,government-led regional economic integration may promote the transformation of economic growth pattern,or it may hinder it.As for the influence mechanism,industrial structure optimization is an important mechanism of the government-led regional economic integration influencing the transformation of economic growth pattern.The impact of government-led regional economic integration on the transformation of economic growth pattern is uncertain,by influencing the differentiation,rationalization and upgrading of regional industrial structure.Taking the regional cooperation practice in Pan-Pearl River Delta as an example,with the panel data of nine provinces from 1996 to 2016,this paper measured the regional economic integration index by adopting the relative price method.Based on this,this paper took interaction term made up of the fiscal intervention and regional economic integration index as the proxy variable of government-led regional integration.This paper empirically tested the actual impact of government-led regional economic integration on the transformation of economic growth pattern as well as the specific mechanism of this process by constructing basic model and mediation effect model.The empirical test found that:(1)the government-led regional economic integration has significantly enhanced the intensive level of economic growth and promoted the transformation of economic growth pattern;(2)as for its influence mechanism,government-led regional economic integration can promote the transformation of economic growth pattern by pushing the differentiation of industrial structure and the upgrading of industrial structure,but the impact generated by the mechanism of industrial structure rationalization is not significant;(3)government-led regional economic integration is beneficial for the optimization of regional industrial structure,it can promote the differentiation,rationalization and upgrading of industrial structure.Based on the findings above,this paper put forward some rewarding suggestions.In order to give full play to the strategic role of government-led regional economic integration,it’s essential to further make full use of the government intervention and market mechanism,improve the regional coordination and cooperation strategy,and strengthen the regional industrial division of labor and cooperation. |
