In spite of the fact that electronic payment systems have gained so much interest from various researchers around the world,in practice, there is still a lack of acceptance in electronic payment system amidst the users around the globe considering its usefulness and ease of use.A lot of scholars have seen trust as an essential influence for human decision on acceptance,up till now, just a couple of studies has examined its position on electronic payment system. The introduction of the electronic payment device in Bus Rapid Transit(BRT)has established the system more and categorized it as one of the household name in Lagos State. The current level of payment provision in Lagos BRT is not adequate enough compares to what is been render in other developing countries using BRT system like China.Presently,it is inadequate and ineffective in terms of meeting user's needs;the current payment strategy(electronic payment)is limited to few users due to the lack of trust in the payment system.More than 85%of the daily payments in BRT transactions are made through the old method of payment. The main focus of this study was to examine the position of trust as a mediator factor in influencing acceptance of electronic payment in Lagos BRT system and providing a unique technique for measuring user's acceptance of electronic payment device in the payment system and its immediate impact on acceptance of the device. This was achieved by using three flexible and appropriate indicators(perceived security, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use)that has been used by various scholars for determining acceptance of an innovation technology.Depicting on technology acceptance model(TAM)and theory of planned behavior propounded by(Buckley,Kaye,&Pradhan,2018),we practically test the usefulness of trust as a mediator with 356 survey data and substantiate the validity and reliability to present evidence on the proposed hypothesis in this study through structural equation modeling(LISREL).The effect indicated a strong support for the effects of perceived security and perceived ease of use but perceived usefulness never found support on the end result. Most importantly, trust was found to significantly influenced acceptance of electronic payment system. The investigations put forward a positive means to promote acceptance of electronic payment system for BRT users. The study used quantitative technique for inter:preting primary source data;also we adopted an all-inclusive questionnaire survey administered among the various users from different routes for the sake of gathering adequate and essential information needed for this research finding. The study discovered that the majority of users whom involved in this study agreed to strongly prefer making payment in an electronic way than making payment with physical cash.Meanwhile the users who particularly satisfied with the quality of services the electronic device rendered will strongly trust the device more than the old system of payment.Related to this outcome it is predicted that the role of trust as a mediator foster satisfaction of users and developed the acceptance of the device, all outcomes can be related to the previous literature related to electronic payment research,In addition, this study verified the foremost objectives of this critique by applying the three elastic indicators into precise case, and examining the wide-ranging outcomes that emanated from 356 out of 400 users whom came from different routes within the metropolis. The outcomes reflected a surprise with an amazing negative effect of usefulness, because majority of the users does not believe the trust in the usefulness will boost the self-reliance in them to accept the device. In spite of the facts that the device is useful, convenient, secure and easy to use,an average user seems not to accept the device for payment, there is a need for Lagos state government and management involved to look into the deficiency aspect of acceptability instead of concentrating more on profit maximization for scheme, they should look extensively into the problem and proffer an effective solution to ease the stress of potential users encounter during the payment process.
