The energy industry is the basic industry of the national economy and plays a supporting role in the development of the national economy. The development of the economy has accompanied the increase in energy demand, and the competition for energy strategic resources among major powers has become increasingly fierce. The development and changes in the domestic and international situation have made China's energy direct foreign investment have extraordinary strategic significance for domestic enterprises and the entire economic development. At present,China is in the stage of rapid development of industrialization and urbanization. The economy continues to grow rapidly and the energy supply and demand gap is large. Therefore, making full use of both domestic and international resources and two markets is not only a requirement of the national energy development strategy, but also an enterprise to improve itself. The inevitable choice for sustainable development. The study of the relationship between China's energy foreign direct investment and energy import trade will help enrich the relevant theories of China's foreign direct investment and trade. To play the potential of China's cooperation in the energy field, expand the space for international capacity cooperation, promote China's energy industry upgrading and trade structure;contribute to alleviating China's energy shortage and safeguarding national energy security, and have important practical significance for establishing China's energy strategic reserve system. This article is divided into six chapters.Chapter One Introduction. It mainly introduces the research background, research significance, foreign direct investment trade substitution, complementarity, contingency effect and domestic and foreign related research, research ideas, research methods, innovations and deficiencies of foreign direct investment and trade. The second chapter introduces the relevant theories of the trade effect of foreign direct investment, including the theory of trade substitution, complementarity and contingency relationship of foreign direct investment. The third chapter introduces the domestic background and development status of China's energy foreign direct investment. The fourth chapter introduces the mechanism of the import trade effect of energy foreign direct investment and explains the data. The fifth chapter uses the panel data related to China's energy foreign direct investment and energy product import trade from 2005 to 2016 to construct an extended trade gravity model, using unit root test and cointegration test to describe the data and construct a random effect model for China. An empirical analysis of the types of import trade effects of energy foreign direct investment. The sixth chapter introduces the conclusions of this paper and proposes relevant policy recommendations. The research results of this paper show that China's energy foreign direct investment plays an active role in promoting China's energy imports. For every 1%increase in energy investment,China's energy imports will increase by 0.3941%.China's energy foreign investment country is also the promotion effect of China's energy importing country's GDP on China's energy imports. For every 1%increase in host country GDP,energy imports will increase by 2.5563%.The more energy the host country has,the more energy it has.The population of China's energy importing countries has an inhibitory effect on China's energy imports. The more people in the host country, the greater the energy consumption and the less energy available for export.Whether the virtual variables bordering China and the distance between the host country and China are significant and seriously inhibit the import of China's energy products. The innovations of this paper are as follows:First, the existing literature focuses on the relationship between foreign direct investment and export trade, and there is little research on the relationship between foreign direct investment and import trade. The existing literature mainly analyzes the impact on the trade of the energy industry from the national macro-level foreign direct investment data. This paper studies the foreign direct investment data of the energy industry through the American Heritage Foundation and studies the foreign direct investment of China's energy through micro-industry data.Import effect, data usage is more accurate.Second, the literature has focused on the trade effect of foreign direct investment in agriculture and manufacturing. From the perspective of energy industry, this paper elaborates on China's foreign direct investment system and conducts empirical research on the import trade effect of China's energy direct foreign investment.Provide theoretical and data support for China's energy companies to go abroad to develop energy investment and trade. The shortcomings of this paper are:First,China's foreign direct investment started late.At present, the international statistics on the official data of foreign direct investment in China's sub-sectors began in 2005.The imperfection of statistical data has a certain impact on the authority of the empirical analysis results in this paper.China's foreign direct investment in energy is now in its infancy. After the financial crisis,China's foreign direct investment data is gradually enriched. In addition, the development level of each energy-absorbing country is uneven. The final screening of the eligible countries that absorb China's energy investment is relatively accurate.less.International statistics are limited to accessing energy markets as energy for commodity sales, such as coal, oil, natural gas and electricity.Due to the lack of power and nuclear energy statistics, coal, oil and natural gas are the core of primary energy and the basis of global energy market transactions. Therefore, the energy studied in this paper refers to the three traditional energy sources of coal, oil and natural gas.Second, this paper will briefly analyze the scale effect of energy imports by the import trade effect of direct energy investment.Due to data loss and classification of energy products, the energy products were not classified and the structural effects of energy imports were studied.Since the selected data is less than the required countries, the selected countries cannot be classified, and the import trade effects of countries with different levels of development are analyzed.
