In previous research, negative emotions such as emotional exhaustion and low self-efficacy were regarded as the most common psychological factors that cause crying behavior. However,in the field of human resource management or social psychology, the research in emotional exhaustion and the work-related crying behavior research are not that abundant. In addition, although it is also popular to explore the moderating or mediating role that social support played in the process of helping individuals to regulate negative emotions and alleviate burnout, which has been confirmed by many research findings. The relevant research literature about predicting the level of emotional exhaustion with lack of social support as an antecedent variable is still in lack. The study aims to address two major research questions:Can the lack of social support and emotional exhaustion lead to work-related crying? And will psychological flexibility weaken this positive effect? In response to the first research question, the study is trying to explore whether there is a partial mediation between emotional exhaustion and crying. For the second one, personality traits were included as independent variables in the assumed model in most of the previous studies.Psychological flexibility in this study is assumed to act as a moderating variable in a mediation effect to test if it has moderating effect on the relation between the lack of social support and emotional exhaustion. After making assumption of the ideal model and the corresponding hypothesis, the relevant variable measurement in the study follows a new questionnaire based on the existing scales in the previous related research.Factor analysis and reliability analysis of each factor are conducted to ensure the reliability and validity of the questionnaire. The snowball sampling method is used to collect data from female employees in the Netherlands,St.Martin and China, which was a cross-sectional study in the type of research. This study is not making a comparative study of the two countries based on the samples.Although the sample of the study consists of data from different countries, the Chinese sample accounts for about one-third of the total sample failing to meet the requirements in sample size of comparative study.Besides, and the differences in labor characteristics and culture and values between the two countries are not the focus of this study. Therefore, the data collection in various industries in China, the Netherlands is mainly aimed at improving the diversity of sample and generating research findings while reinforcing the existing conclusions. With the PROCESS plug-in to test the moderated mediation model(Hayes,2013),the results of the analysis showed that the effect of psychological flexibility on emotional exhaustion was enhanced in the model of the lack of colleague support as an independent variable of which effect is significant. In the simple slope analysis of psychological flexibility, the researcher found that the lack of support from colleagues in the work will also affect the extent of the impact that psychological flexibility would make.Among all the assumed models, there is a significant full mediation of emotional exhaustion with lack of total social support and lack of supervisor support as predictors respectively. With the lack of family support as a predictor, the moderating effect of psychological flexibility and the mediating effect of emotional exhaustion were not significant.Based on the findings, social support theory,habitus-field theory, safety valve theory,ego-depletion theory are applied trying to explain the conflicts between the findings and the hypothesis.Through this research, the author hopes to help the company improve the working environment of employees, emphasizing the different forms of influence on individual emotions from social support offered by supervisors, colleagues and family members so that the differences in the level of emotional stress from different sectors and occupations are valued. In addition, combining the sociological theory with the perspective in human resource, the possibility of applying social capital theory, social capital resource theory and related social psychological theory to human resource in economic sociology will help to enable the connection among the theories and the flexibility in application of related theories.
