At present,China is in a critical period of economic transformation,the implementation of innovation-driven strategy is a powerful measure to promote economic development.In order to truly play the driving role of innovation,enterprises must explore and make full use of various factors conducive to innovation.As the leader of the enterprise,the background characteristics of the chairman of the board have an important impact on the innovation performance of the enterprise.In this regard,many scholars have launched a lot of positive research and achieved fruitful results.It is of great practical significance to study the innovation performance of enterprises with the chairman as the research object.However,there are still few academic achievements in this field.This paper takes presidents as research object,conducts an deep study of the influence of the president's background characteristics on the company's innovation performance.Based on higher-order theory,innovation theory,leadership theory and demand-level theory,this paper empirically studies the impact of chairman's educational background,professional background,overseas background,political background and academic background on enterprise innovation performance by using the data of 147 listed high-tech manufacturing companies in China from 2012 to 2017.And this paper will take the combination of president and CEO into the research system,as a regulatory variable to explore the impace of the president's background characteristics on the corporate innovation performance regulation.Firstly,this paper introduces the background,purpose and significance of the research,and combs the relevant literature.Secondly,defines the basic concepts of this paper and introduce the relevant theories of this paper.Thirdly,the paper makes qualitative analysis on the impact of president's background characteristics on enterprise innovation performance,puts forward hypothesis,establishes theoretical model,collects the data of China's high-tech manufacturing listed companies from 2012 to 2017,and empirically analyzes the impact of president's background characteristics on enterprise innovation performance by using multiple regression analysis method;Finally,the conclusion is drawn.This paper finds that the educational background,professional background,overseas background and political background of the president have a significant positive impact on the innovation performance of enterprises.The combination of president and CEO has a significant positive moderating effect on the impact of their professionalbackground,overseas background and political background on the innovation performance of enterprises.The conclusion is to further verify the correctness and practicality of higher-order theory,and to further expand the application of higher-order theory in practice.At the same time,the conclusion enriches the research on the field of enterprise innovation,which is of great significance to the improvement of enterprise innovation ability in China.
