How Does Anti-dumping Effect Export Products Quality?

As a means of protecting domestic rightful economic interest,anti-dumping is allowed by the WTO,but because the determination of dumping is too subjective in the anti-dumping process,anti-dumping is often used as a means of trade protection by WTO members.And for many years,China has become the country which suffers the most anti-dumping investigations.How does the anti-dumping affect China's export?Especially with the background of "Strategy of Manufacturing Quality Power“,how does the anti-dumping affect China's export product quality?These questions attract more and more attention.In this paper we focus on how does the anti-dumping affect China's export using the United States to China anti-dumping data.In view of the traditional OLS method is hard to avoid endogeneity problem,in this paper we use difference-in-difference model to avoid endogeneity problem and exclude the impact of other factors.Our study draws on data from two sources.The first is China Customs data for the 2000-2006 period,and the second data source is the Global Antidumping Database(GAD)of the World Bank.We use China Customs data for the 2000-2006 period and the method used by Shi(2014)to calculate China's export product quality.And we use the Global Antidumping Database to set suitable anti-dumping variables.After empirical analysis,we found that the anti-dumping has a negative impact for export products quality on the whole.But when we divide the whole sample into different subsample according to the technical content,the impact for export products quality becomes different.For the low technology content export products,anti-dumping reduces the its products quality;for the medium technology content of export products,there is no significant difference brought by anti-dumping to its products quality;for the high technology content export products,anti-dumping improves the its products quality.
