Research On Economic Integration Of Nanjing Metropolitan Area

With the wave of regional economic integration pushing,megalopolis which are centered on one or more of the big cities have become the important form and constituent part of regional economic development.The group advantage improves the whole competitiveness of metropolitan area.The cluster development and the collaboration of integration is the inevitable choice when take part in the regional cooperation and competition that can add economic vigor.the Nanjing metropolitan area plays an important role in spreading resources,experience and concept from Yangtze River Delta to central and western regions so that can coordinate the development of east-central-west regions.However,there are some prominent problems in developing metropolitan areas such as power gaps between counties and cities,imperfect transport network,no unified industrial development,and administrative barriers.Further study of the Nanjing metropolitan area should be taken and find out the problem during economic integration development that the Countermeasures and Suggestions are put forward.Based on the combing and summarizing the related theories and Domestic and foreign researches,qualitative describe and quantitative measure the development foundation,comprehensive development level of counties and cities,spatial relation among counties and cities in the Nanjing metropolitan area.The paper analyses advantages,disadvantages,opportunities,challenges in the integrative development and respectively discuss the transportation,policy,industry,finding the problems and putting forward the countermeasures and suggestions.Finally,the advanced experience of metropolitan areas abroad has been referred,the development strategy and safeguard measure have been formulated.Great achievements have achieved in the Nanjing metropolitan area since 2000.It can be seen that from quantitative analysis of the study area that social economic development level and living standards are rising.Gap between counties and cities is narrowing.A layer structure has been formed Nanjing as the center and Nanjing-Zhenjiang-Yangzhou as the core area.The relatively good counties and cities extend along the river.Spatial relation of cities and counties is growing in Nanjing metropolitan area,the linkage between Nanjing main city and other counties and cities are the strongest.The evolution of spatial relation in Nanjing metropolitan area reflect the space reconstruction of metropolitan's internal space form which is radial structure taking Nanjing as the center in 2000 and there is a high strength contact network among cities and counties in Nanjing,Zhenjiang,Yangzhou,Maanshan in 2013.The center district of Nanjing metropolitan area has expanded to areas along the Yangtze River including Nanjing-Yangzhou-Zhenjiang region and Nanjing-Maanshan region.There is a layer structure of potential values taking Nanjing as the center.The potential index of the Nanjing's main city has decreased since 2007,explaining the spatial structure changing of metropolitan area and the breaking of single-core structure.Excellent developing basis,Continuous policy supporting,superior location,National transport hub,prominent science and education,rich cultural heritage are the advantages.Unbalanced development,Planning lacking of integrity,no unified industry development are the disadvantages.The national development strategies,a new round of infrastructure construction are the opportunities.Improving economic power of the whole metropolitan area,compromising complex competition,the transformation of development are the challenges.There is fragmented economy and prisoner's dilemma in policy-making.Coordination mechanism is not sound.Development of metropolitan areas should be integrated into the national development strategy.A sound system of metropolitan area unified coordination mechanism can improve the policy execution ability.There is regional imbalance in transportation development and lacking of traffic network development.Transportation construction should plan as a whole which build big traffic pattern with transportation hubs and encourage traffic industrialization with social capital.There is obvious structure convergence in the industrial development and less cooperation between industries.Promoting division of labor cooperation,unified planning and strengthening the Nanjing central role are the key emphasis in industrial development.Spreading resources,experience and concept from Yangtze River Delta to central and western regions,building advanced manufacturing industry and modern service industry,making a platform of industrial transfer and cooperation among Pan Yangtze river delta are the developing focus.There are some safeguards of integrative development such as building and perfecting Organizing and coordinating structure,innovating cooperation mechanism and the implementation of the planning and policy.
