The National Mathematics Curriculum Standards for Senior Middle School clearly propose that the Mathematical Modeling Literacy is one of the six Mathematics Core Literacy.Mathematical Modeling is a bridge between the real world and mathematics.And Mathematical Modeling Ideas need to penetrate into teaching in the junior high school stage.With the development of Mathematical Core Literacy,Mathematical Modeling Literacy will become one of the essential qualities of students.Therefore,junior high school mathematics education must place the students' Mathematical Modeling Literacy cultivation in an important position.For this reason,Wanzhou District was taken as an example to have a survey.And the students from two key middle schools were selected as the respondents.The investigation spread from the following aspects: First,how is the Mathematical Modeling Literacy level of junior high school students? Second,what are the shortcomings of Mathematical Modeling Literacy in teaching? Third,what is need to improve in Mathematical Modeling Literacy section?This paper mainly used methods as follows: literature analysis,interviews,and questionnaires.Firstly,the literature analysis method is used to analyze the Research Status of Mathematical Core Literacy and Mathematical Modeling.Secondly,through making use of interview to teachers from first-line in junior middle school,understand the teachers' realization of Mathematical modeling and the teaching situation of Mathematical modeling in junior high school.Finally,use questionnaire to investigate Mathematical Modeling Literacy for junior high school students in this region;Analyze the actors which affecting the Level of Mathematical Modeling of Junior Middle School Students;Summarize the development status of junior high school students' mathematical modeling literacy;puts forward some suggestions to promote the development of junior high school students' Mathematical Modeling Literacy;Propose suggestions on promoting the Development of Mathematical Modeling of Junior Middle School Students.According to the results of the questionnaire and interviews,it is found that:(1)The students are not so interested in mathematical modeling learning,and some students even reject the relevant content of mathematical modeling.(2)Some students have more difficulties in translating practical problems into mathematical problems.(3)Junior high school students have insufficient understanding on Mathematical Modeling,and their knowledge of Mathematical Modeling is not wide enough.(4)Students lack theoretical knowledge of Mathematical Modeling,and their theoretical knowledge is not enough.(5)Junior high school students basically do not have an opportunity to participate in the experience of mathematical modeling practice activities,and do not have enough awareness on mathematical application.(6)Some teachers do not have much teaching experience in Mathematical Modeling,and their understanding of Mathematical Modeling Literacy should be improved.Through the test,it is found that:(1)The Mathematics Modeling Literacy Level of junior high school students in this region is generally low,and there is still much room for improvement.(2)The average level of Mathematics Modeling Literacy of students is 6.89% at level 0,and the average level at level 1 is 12.41%.The students of these two levels have almost zero knowledge about Mathematical Modeling.(3)Students at level 2 or 3 account for about one-half of the total.These students have a bit of understanding of Mathematical Modeling,but it's far from enough;(4)The proportion of students at level 4 is the highest,less than one-third of the total,of which junior high school students account for the majority,which indicate that junior high school students' Mathematical Modeling literacy is closely related to the grade.Through the investigation,suggestions are given mainly from the three aspects in cultivating Mathematical Modeling Literacy of junior high school students.First,from the teaching aspect of teachers: Start from the practical problems of students' social life,inspiring their interests in learning;Pay more attention to math reading and improve understanding ability;Focus on innovative teaching and cultivate Mathematical Modeling Ideas.The second is to strengthen the Mathematical Modeling of junior high school students' practical activities and carry out a moderate Mathematics Modeling Competition for junior high school students.The third is from the school: training for teachers should be strengthened,and Mathematics Modeling Teaching and research activities and Mathematical Modeling Lectures should be actively carried out.
