Research On The Application Of Supportive Groups In Retired University Teachers

At present,the aging of population has become a major challenge for our country.In the past,the studies on the elder were singly on their material or spiritual needs and correspondingly only one aspect of the elder's demands can be met.In addition,these studies mostly focused on the disadvantaged elderly groups in the traditional sense,while rare researches have been done on the issue that whether the retired people from powerful groups suffer from the old-age hardship or not.Of course,social work researches on this aspect are much less.As for this paper,we take the field method and choose the retired faculty members as the object of the study due to that,on the one hand,they belong to the traditional powerful groups for they enjoy the relatively higher income and social reputation,and,on the other hand,after retirement,they actually belong to the disadvantaged group,which attributes to the fracture of social support network.In this paper,the present situation of the social support for retired faculty members of X University has been analyzed in three aspects:objective support,subjective support and the degree of utilizing social support.Thus,related problems of the social support for them can be summarized and their inner demand can be found out correspondingly.Given analyses on these survey results and their demands,the plan of group service activity is drawn up in order to meet their inner demands and solve problems of social support by interaction and sharing in activities among group members.In the process of organizing group activities,the idea of helping people to help themselves should be upheld combing with the strength perspectives and professional ethics of social work and,at the same time,professional knowledge and methods should be used in order to explore advantages of group members,promote their strengths,improve their mutual trust and communication.Moreover,we should reflect on our activities on its duration to improve the quality of group service and explore the way to improve the social support for retired faculty members through professional social work methods.Through this applied research,professional social work methods have been testified to be significantly advantageous and practically valuable in promoting social support for retired faculty members.Meanwhile,as far as I am concerned,the professional competence of social workers should be further uplifted,three professional methods should be jointly applied,strength perspective and problem perspective should be paid equal attention to,which will enhance the service objects' cognition on social work and gradually improve the present situation of social support for retired faculty members.
