STEAM education is an interdisciplinary education mode that emphasizes the integration of knowledge or skills in the fields of science,technology,engineering,arts and mathematics.Among them,"Engineering" is the main line connecting the experience of STEAM in other fields.At present,the research on "kindergarten engineering education" directed at our country is basically in a blank state.By reading the literature of STEAM and the professional books of engineering,the author tries to summarize the core concepts of "children's engineering" and "kindergarten engineering education" with own thinking.It is proposed that children's projects differ from those of adults,it also organizes general procedures for organizing children to carry out engineering activities and analyzes the most important features of kindergarten engineering education.At the same time,the author mainly demonstrate the necessity of STEAM education in kindergartens from the perspectives of social development,adapting to changes in children's life,and cultivating complete children.The author also expounds the feasibility of carrying out "engineering education based on the concept of STEAM" in kindergartens from two aspects:the basis of our educational practice and the characteristics of children's learning.On this basis,the author chooses to try out the concept of STEAM in the children's "woodworking activities" to carry out engineering education practice research.In this process,the author observed and recorded in detail the way teachers organize activities and children's performance in engineering activities.By comparing the changes before and after the performance of children,the author found that children have acquired a comprehensive range of experience.Among them,mainly include the experience of using tools or materials,the experience of planning,the experience of cooperation,the experience of mathematics,the experience of scientific cognition,the experience of art and the experience of engineering thinking.In the engineering activities,children acquire comprehensive and comprehensive experience mainly through the guidance of teachers,the interaction among peers and the way to explore independently.In addition,the study found that the reason why "engineering activities based on the concept of STEAM"can make children acquire comprehensive experience mainly because children's projects rely on the situation of the problem and it can stimulate the initiative of children;and more practical problems are enriched to the possibility of enriching children's experience;use opportunities for collaboration to accommodate the diversity of children;encourage children to gain experience in many ways and focus on the process of engineering practice,Finally,in view of the problems in educational practice,as well as on the ways in which children gain comprehensive experience in engineering activities,the author made the following suggestions to teachers:establish the concept of STEAM,enhance engineering awareness and broaden the area of their experience;pay attention to the problem situations encountered by children and select the complex issues that children may acquire more experience;provide as many rich and appropriate tools or materials as possible;focus on children's projects and encourage children's engineering practices;encourage children to carry out projects in a cooperative manner and respect individual differences among children;change parents' educational concepts,improve the effectiveness of home-based cooperation,and enrich children's experience.So as to actively play the role of "engineering" in promoting children's comprehensive experience.
