As the carrier of mathematical thinking activities,mathematical symbols promote the continuous development and expansion of mathematics.After the new curriculum reform,the "full time compulsory education mathematics curriculum standard" required the mathematical symbol sense as the important knowledge skills.Junior middle school students begin to shift from image thinking to abstract thinking.Students begin to learn a lot of mathematical symbols,which gradually form symbol sense system in students’ minds.However,in practical teaching,students’ acceptance of symbols is not high,which creates students’ learning difficulties.In order to know the present situation of junior middle school students’ symbol sense,after reviewing junior high school textbooks of people’s education press,I have selected grade eight students as my research subject.The the field of research has restricted to algebra.In this study,symbol sense is divided into three aspects: symbolic cognition,symbolic representation and symbolic application.The SOLO evaluation system is used to design different dimension evaluation criteria for three aspects.In this study,students from the Middle School Attached to Guangzhou University and Guangzhou No.41 Middle School were selected as the research subjects.The students’ symbol sense was tested by questionnaire survey.In order to know the students’ symbol sense more,this study also has used interview methods.Through the analysis,the students’ symbolic dimension of cognitive performance is good,many students can relate frequently-used mathematical knowledge with symbols effectively;as for students’ dimensions of symbols expression,most students are below the average level,they can’t represent the general laws and relations integrity;students’ application of symbol overall performance is very poor,they can’t understand the mathematical relationship under the mathematical formulas enough,symbolic reasoning ability of students should be improved.Symbolic consciousness is positively related to the students’ mathematical achievement.According to the students’ lack of understanding of the symbols and the poor symbolic reasoning,this paper gives a series of teaching suggestions. |
