The cultivation of reading ability affects students' lifelong learning and development.All countries attach importance to the training of students' reading ability.Our country also recognizes the strategic importance of reading ability in teaching,so,in 2016,the core literacy of Chinese student development put forward new requirements for the cultivation of reading ability.But at present,the reading ability of high school students is not optimistic,many students can not complete the amount of reading stipulated in the curriculum standard,so it is still necessary to explore the students' reading ability.This article is divided into four parts.The introduction mainly outlines the background and significance of the research,the status quo of domestic research,and the theoretical basis and research methods of the research.The first part discusses the connotation of high school students' reading ability based on their core literacy,and define the relevant concepts in this article,include "reading","reading ability","novels","core literacy of student development",and "core literacy of high school language development".Focusing on the specific connotation of reading ability of senior high school students.It includes the ability to read the text quickly,the understanding and application of knowledge,the ability to analyze and criticize,evaluate and appreciate the ability,expand the ability of extending reading,and inherit and carry forward the cultural ability.The second part mainly analyzes the advantages and goals of developing students' reading ability in high school novel teaching.Combining the textbooks of people's Education Edition and Jiangsu Education Edition,this paper analyzes the teaching contents and teaching requirements of current high school novels.This paper analyzes the advantages of cultivating students' reading ability in the teaching of high school reading from five aspects,such as strong fiction style and storytelling,strong appeal of the novel language,strong expressive art,broad content of the novel and profound culture of the novel.The goals of the high school novel teaching include: teachers should change the traditional concept of reading teaching,guide students to acquire effective reading methods,and guide students to develop good reading habits.The third part,based on the questionnaire survey,analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of high school students' reading ability,and thinks that they can generate new knowledge under the guidance of teachers,have strong reading interest and a certain analytical comprehensive ability.The shortage is not to grasp the text as a whole,lack of critical thinking,and choose extracurricular reading to be entertainmentoriented.Then it discusses the reasons for this situation from six aspects: students,teachers,textbooks,schools,families and society.The fourth part,starting from the lack of high school students' reading ability,takes the novel teaching as an example to discuss the specific measures to improve the reading ability of high school students,focusing on the development of each student,digging up the value of the text,creating the teaching situation,stimulating the consciousness of the students,leading the emotional experience,and expanding the aesthetic space of the students.
