Analysis Of The Process And Role Of Brazil's Participation In The Governance Of The Amazon Region

With the world's largest tropical rainforest,the Amazon region,rich in mineral resources,exerts an enormous function on regulating global climate change.Consequently,the governance of the Amazon region is much concerned all over the international community.As the strongest one within this region,Brazil has the highest proportion of Amazon area,which helps to make its significant role in the governance of the Amazon region.Given Brazil's participation in the governance of the Amazon region,there are two periods.One is the period from the time when it was colonized to the time when the military government ruled,and the other one is the time when the democratic government was in power.Since President Bolsonaro took office,Brazil's participation in the governance of the Amazon region has witnessed its changes.When governing the Amazon region,the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization has given the full play in its protection and development.To act as a regional power and gain the trust of its neighboring countries,Brazil has played a leading role in this organization,the material basis of which is a large amount of goods and materials it provided for the organization.It features in leading the construction process of the institution and demonstrating how the member states should conduct in terms of conception and behavior.Brazil's participation in international cooperation in the governance of the Amazon region is closely related to its climate policy,and its role in international cooperation has also changed as different government came into power.Initially Brazil was a protector of Amazon's sovereignty and a passive participant.From the Lula government,Brazil has changed its perception of national interests and regarded the Amazon issue as an important starting point for enhancing its power of discourse.Thus,it began to play as a coordinator role in international cooperation.Firstly,Brazil coordinated among the powers in the negotiations of climate change issue.Secondly,Brazil acted as a communication bridge between the countries within and out of this region in the issue of Amazon region under the framework of climate change.In the meanwhile,Brazil faces both opportunities and challenges in its continued role.
