Daniel Bell is one of the most influential sociologists and thinkers of our time.He has profound insights in the problems of contemporary capitalist society.Bell has always been committed to applying his theory to the guidance of current social practice,and envisages a "public family" to save the current capitalist society which facing many problems.This paper discusses the socialist thought which important part of Bell’s grand theory system.Discussing the source of his academic theory is the first step to study Bell’s "socialist thought".The background of the times and social reality aroused Bell’s interest in this thought.Marxism provided the initial nourishment for Bell,especially their discussion of "needs and wants".Liberal tradition and neo-conservative thinking made Bell not completely a Marxist.It promotes him to think about issues such as "equality and freedom" and social welfare in society,help Bell to build the concept of“public family” where Socialist Thought embeds in.After exploring the origin of Bell’s "socialist thought",this paper analyzes the main content from two perspectives.On the one hand,it expounds the academic approach of this thought——fiscal sociology.On the other hand,it presents the carrier of Bell’s "socialist thinking" ——public family.Finally,by comparing the "public family" with the welfare state,the theoretical contribution of the "public family" program is highlighted,and the "welfare" elements in Bell’s "socialist" thinking are revealed.The ending part expounds the theoretical significance and limitations of this thought,and thinks about the role in Chinese society and people’s livelihood construction. |
