Research On China's Economic Aid To South Pacific Island Countries

Economic assistance is an integral part of the diplomatic strategy that the international community attaches great importance to after World War II.China has always attached great importance to and actively provided economic assistance to other countries in need,both in the past of difficult development and in the present of rapid economic development.Especially after the 21 st century,China's economic assistance to South Pacific island countries has become a highlight of China's economic diplomacy.Geographically and economically,40% of the world's population consumes economically in the South Pacific region,which accounts for almost half of the world's total trade volume and trade volume.The economic and trade exchanges between these countries form the economic development region around the Pacific Ocean.The large span,frequent exchanges and high volume of trade make the Pacific Economic Development Region one of the most active and largest economic regions in the world.Politically speaking,the frequent political frictions among countries in the Pacific Rim region,the conflicts of interests among major powers have become increasingly prominent with the frequent economic exchanges,and the political center is slowly moving towards the Pacific Rim region.All these indicate that the Pacific region will be the center of the world stage in the 21 st century.Not only that,the islands in the South Pacific region or the southern line of China's Maritime Silk Road in twenty-first Century are an important strategic node in the "one belt and one road" strategy.With the opening and implementation of the "one belt and one way" strategy,China will continue to increase its assistance to the island countries in the South Pacific region.Therefore,studying China's assistance to the countries in the South Pacific region is also of great significance for the implementation of the "one belt and one way" strategy.By sorting out the literature,this paper first collates the relevant literature on the South Pacific island countries at home and abroad.Secondly,the mechanism,form and effectiveness of China's foreign aid to South Pacific island countries are analyzed.Then,through the analysis of aid projects and aid funds in Papua New Guinea and Fiji,which have relatively good economic and political strength in the South Pacific,thispaper explores the motivation of aid to island countries in the South Pacific region.Finally,this paper objectively summarizes and evaluates China's aid projects to South Pacific island countries,points out problems and puts forward suggestions and measures.Compared with other traditional aid powers such as Australia,the United States,Japan and New Zealand,China has come into contact with the economic assistance field of the South Pacific island countries relatively late.Studying and exploring China's economic assistance to the South Pacific island countries will help us to achieve better aid.The purpose of this paper is to help us understand the overall situation of China's aid projects to Pacific island countries more comprehensively,to increase the support of the domestic people for China's foreign aid work,to enhance the effectiveness of aid,and to enhance China's national image.
