| China is a big agricultural country. The issues of agriculture, rural areas and rural people are still the foci of China’s modernization work.By 2017,the number of rural residents in China has reached 797 million. The level of political participation of rural residents is crucial to the development of grass-roots democracy construction and the realization of the strategy for rejuvenating villages. However, there are widespread problems in rural areas, such as the low overall participation rate of rural residents and the unevenness among individuals, which seriously affect the performance of rural governance in rural areas. Therefore,it is very realistic and necessary to dig into the factors influencing rural residents’ political participation, especially the causes of the differences in political participation among rural residents.According to the existing research, the theory of social capital has certain explanatory power for rural residents’ political participation. Therefore, exploring the relationship between rural residents’ individual social capital and their political participation is of positive significance in finding ways to increase rural residents’ political participation.Based on the existing research results concerning the relationship between social capital and political participation, this paper comprehensively considers the individual social capital of rural residents from the three aspects of trust, reciprocity norms, and social networks;at the same time,it will involve the level of political participation of rural residents.Operationalization is the two factors of political participation behavior and political participation consciousness, and sets up the theoretical model of this research, and puts forward the research hypothesis: The rural residents’ individual social capital stock is one of the influencing factors of their political participation behavior and political participation consciousness.Based on the basic understanding of the actual conditions of the administrative villages in Qingyang region, this study selects Liyuanbao Village in Nanliang Township,Huachi County,Yaowangdong Village in Qingcheng Township of Qingcheng County, and Maosi Village in Xiansheng Township of Xifeng District as the subjects of this study, and conducts in-depth research on the ground.Through in-depth interviews, questionnaires, and other methods,it collects first-hand data, and on this basis,it takes rough and refined information to ensure that the sample data is true and effective. This study usesSPSS19.0 software to conduct statistical analysis on sample data and concludes preliminarily: The individual social capital stock of rural residents significantly influences their level of political participation, while the social capital stock is affected by the basic personal conditions. Finally, this study proposes relevant policy recommendations: The successful implementation of the rural revitalization strategy requires both the building of material civilization and the construction of spiritual civilization. We should pay attention to the social capital in rural areas and fully tap and utilize the social capital in rural areas in order to advance Grassroots democracy building. Therefore,on the one hand, individual social capital of rural residents can be trained by developing various social organizations, increasing the degree of organization of the community, and increasing publicity;on the other hand, efforts should be made to improve the quality of rural residents themselves. It helps to nurture social capital, thereby enhancing their level of political participation and advancing the process of democratization in our country. |
