There is no doubt that Fu Lei's main academic contribution is focused on the translation of French literature into Chinese.In this regard,the academic community has maintained a strong interest in his works,and a large number of research papers have been published.In addition,Fu Lei also made an important contribution to the construction and development of Chinese fine arts in the early 20 th century and exerted a unique influence.For a long period of time,limited piecemeal and rough discussions were made on his works.Although,some more systematic and in-depth studies have been carried out in the past ten years,the quantity is still small and the quality needs to be strengthened urgently.Fu Lei has a close relationship with arts.When he studied in France in the early years,the history of western art had become one of the main directions of Fu Lei's study.After turning back,Fu Lei applied for a teaching position in Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts and became a professional art educator.In the same period,Fu Lei put a lot of efforts on cooperating and editing art magazine,and participating in the preparation of art organizations,hosting and planning art exhibitions and many other art communication activities.He did a wonderful job and became an influential Chinese art activists in the 1930 s and 1940 s.The reason why Fu Lei made a successful development in art world is that he was clever at froming a mentoring relationship with various outstanding artists.Thus this article engages Fu Lei's art activities into the first chapter.As an art activist,Fu Lei has shown his outstanding and diverse execution abilities on artistic practice.Further more,as critics and historian,his powerful creative ability on knowledge production has been interpreted by his works in art criticism and theory,as well as the Chinese translation of western art history works.In the second chapter,in order to understand and analyze the concepts and characteristics of Fu Lei's art criticism.Fu Lei's art criticism articles and thoughtful criticism insights published in his letters are taken as research objects.The third chapter focuses on Fu Lei's translation and introduction of western art history works.Philosophie de L' Art and Rodin L' Art translated by Fu Lei have influenced several generations of intellectuals,including the Chinese art circle.And his translation of Vingt Lecons d' Hsitoire de L' Art for teaching in Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts has created a western writing style of art history which combines the original works with the contents added by the author according to the specific teaching objectives.Fu Lei,with his extraordinary wisdom and diligence,keen artistic perception,and profound learning and cultivation of Chinese and western cultures,only used a short period of time in his life to make the fruitful achievements in this field that ordinary people could not reach.
