The issue of helping others has been a hotspot in social psychology research in recent years. In previous studies, the influencing factors of willingness to help were summed up as personal factors and environmental factors.Among them, social exclusion played a important role. The impact of social exclusion on the willingness to help others is currently inconsistent and even contradictory. In order to find out the influence mechanism, this article tried to find the third variable to explore its internal relationship.Existing studies have shown that the construal level has a moderating effect on the negative effects of social exclusion. Therefore,we had reason to believe that social exclusion has a negative impact on the willingness to help, and the construal level played a role in its impact. To test this hypothesis, this study used experimental method to explore the role of construal level in the impact of social exclusion on willingness to help.First study used the experimental method. The subjects were college students in Nanjing universities and received 61 valid data in total.By controlling the sense of rejection of the subjects, the impact of social exclusion on the willingness to help was explored.A single factor 2 level(exclusion,control)inter-group experimental design was used. The independent variable was social exclusion and the dependent variable was willingness to help.It was found that the rejection group and the control group had significant differences in helping willingness. The control group's willingness to help score was significantly higher than the rejection group's willingness to help.Second study used the experimental method. The subjects were college students in Nanjing universities and received 119 valid data in total.Second study started from the construal level,to explore its role in the impact of social exclusion on willingness to help, using 2(exclusion,control)× 2(high construal level, low construal level)two-factor completely random experimental design, the independent variable was social exclusion, adjustment variable was the construal level and the dependent variable was the willingness to help. The results showed that the main effect of social exclusion on the willingness to help was significant;the main effect of the construal level on the willingness to help was significant;the interaction between social exclusion and construal level was significant.Overall, this study drawed the following conclusions: individuals who weresocially excluded had a lower willingness to help than individuals who are not;Construal level played a moderating role in the influence of social exclusion on the willingness to help.As the construal Level changed from low to high, the impact of social exclusion on individual willingness to help was significantly reduced.
