Today,we are committed to achieving a good life. Each person's blueprint for a good life is different, and it's not reliable to standardize various blueprints.Maybe we can't define a standard for the good life. But when people are not good and have room to improve,it's necessary to make accurate judgments. So the most important question is how to evaluate a person's happiness and quality of life? Amartya Sen's theory of capabilities justice originates from answer to this question.Sen believes that people's happiness and their status in society should not only be evaluated based on the resources available to them or the psychological feelings generated by using these resources, but should be based on "functions" and "capabilities to realize the functions that people value."Both utilitarianism and Rawlism have made the mistake of welfare consequentialism and neglected the versatility and agency. It's based on this criticism that Sen proposed the concept of capabilities. The capabilities are necessary conditions for what we can do,including what individuals have and what society provides.Capabilities is essential for the agency. The aspiration of realizing basic capabilities for all can be justified to be a justice claim when it flows from the moral judgement that all capabilities inequalities in life prospects meted out to people by the basic structure of society and for which they are not responsible are prima facie unjust. In response, the focus of the capabilities approach as a theory of justice is to design the economic and political institutions of society so that everyone has adequate material and social resources so that Own and exercise a set of basic capabilities to lead a decent life. The realization of all people's basic capabilities ideal will involve many equally valuable principles and complicated institutional structures. So on the one hand,Sen developed the theory of Broad Consequentialism to evaluate the effectiveness of the basic structure of society in promoting human capabilities. On the other hand,we must realize that personal responsibility is embedded and cultivated in social responsibility,so social responsibility should be emphasized. In practice,no matter what kind of social or cultural form,Its implementation must end with the presentation of a certain capabilities list.Sen believes that the capabilities list should be conceived through public reasoning and democracy so that people can universally accept it.It's precisely because Sen does not advocate providing a clear list of abilities, but the idea of pinning on public reasoning has led to many difficulties in practice.
