A Study Of Chinese Intonation With Different Tone Functions In Happy Emotion

Communication is a significant prosodic feature in the field of linguistics.Communication have major impact on emotion exchange and information transmission.And it serves two mainly functions in speech in daily speech: emotional functions and mood functions.Linguistic function refers to the use of communication to express such grammatical categories as statement,interrogative,imperative and exclamation.Emotional function refers to expressing the speaker’s emotional attitude through communication,such as happiness,anger,disgust,etc.The study of these two functions and their interactive communication can enrich the research content of Mandarin Chinese communication,and provide important reference for second language teaching,speech synthesis and speech recognition.This study examined the influence of emotional function(pleasure,neutral)and mood function(statement,interrogative,command)on each other in perception through perception experiment.In perception experiment,14 subjects were asked to distinguish emotional function and mood function according to the listening materials that eliminate the difference of intensity and duration.The mode of intonation interaction is investigated by analyzing the parameters of fundamental frequency and duration in acoustic experiment.The main results are as follows:1.When expressing happy emotions,the speaker will use a higher fundamental frequency and a faster speech rate compared to neutral emotion speech.When the speaker expresses interrogative tone,it will use a higher base frequency and faster speech speed than the declarative tone,and the base frequency of the last word will accelerate to reflect the doubt;Intonation presents a lower pitch at the beginning of the sentence and a higher pitch at the end of the sentence.2.In the interaction of happy emotion and interrogative mood,there is a strong superposition on the F0,and the tone scale of the whole sentence rises sharply,while the tone function retains its original features locally,and the pitch at the end accelerates to rise;in the interaction of happy emotion and command mood,there is a parallel superposition on the basic frequency,and the tone scale rises as a whole,and the duration becomes longer.There is no significant difference in the tone scale of the last word,and the pitch of the first word is lower.3.When the pitch realization ways of emotion and mood are similar and work together,it is conducive to each other’s discrimination: in happy interrogative mood,interrogative mood promotes the discrimination of happy emotion,happy emotion also promotes the discrimination of interrogative mood,but if only one of them is used,there will be mutual disturbance because of similar realization ways: neutral interrogative mood is recognized When the realization of emotion and tone pitch is not similar,it is not conducive to each other’s discrimination: happy emotion will inhibit the discrimination of statement and command mood.
