A Lantern by the Fork(歧路灯)was written in the Qianlong Period of Qing Dynasty,18th century.The author,Li Lvyuan(李绿园),described the living condition of common people in the late feudal society vividly in a kind of language rich in the local colour of Henan area.And the typical language,which is full of colloquial material,makes it an uncommon subject of linguistic,especially,lexical study.The studies of this book before always focused in certain kind of vocabulary and seldom chose to systematically study the entirety of the words.Therefore,to make a systematic research of the unitary words in the book,is of great significance to the study on Lexical History of Modern Chinese.And,this article,which firstly gives the systemic description of the words in A Lantern by the Fork,using linguistic and lexical theories to analyze and interpret the specific lexical states synchronically and diachronically,in order to contribute to the lexical study on Modern Chinese.This article is divided into five parts.The introduction briefly introduces A Lantern by the Fork and its editions,presents the significance of this study,and represent the actualities and methods of the study.Chapter 1 focuses on the general vocabulary,begins with the definition of general vocabulary,enter with dialect words,ancient words and religious words,using typical examples and synonyms to analyze and describe the condition of general vocabulary.Chapter 2 defines the standard of inverse morphemes word pairs,homophones and four syllable words,analyzes their structure and sources,and concludes the characteristics of the forms of the vocabulary in A Lantern by the Fork.Chapter 3 mainly discusses the colloquial proverbs through describe and analyze the structures and sources 168 typical proverbs,and then discover their development and evolution synchronically and diachronically.Chapter4 puts forward the suggestions to The Chinese Dictionary about different aspects aimed at the imperfect points about vocabulary,explanation and illustration. |
