Teaching language in schools for the deaf has always been the big issue of deaf education,moreover,it's a focus researching for experts and scholars of deaf education.Under the influence of the teaching concept of oralism for many years,the current instructing language is spoken Chinese,signed Chinese plays a assistant role.In recent years,influenced by some other countries and reflections on the past decades of deaf education in China,more and more people have begun to objectively realize the decisive role of sign language in the education of the deaf.Related researches on sign language in China have also developed,and the role of natural sign language in deaf school teaching has been paid more and more attention.Most deaf schools in China examine teachers' sign language ability and have been advocating teachers to use "Signed Chinese" for a long time.In 2018,Lexicon Common Expressions in Chinese National Sign Language,which has been studied,standardized and planned for seven years,was officially issued on July 1,and Chinese National Sign Language training was initiated for professionals from various professions,mainly deaf school teachers.The publication of Lexicon Common Expressions in Chinese National Sign Language represents the development and reform direction of teaching language in deaf schools in the coming days.The fundamental change and progress lies in changing the past history of "compiling" vocabulary by hearing researchers following to the rules of Chinese lexis,and starting to recognize the linguistic characteristics of sign language and including more natural sign language lexis.The correct use of Chinese National Sign Language for teaching is not only the requirement of professional standards for deaf school teachers,but also an important part of their professional development.Understanding the current situation of the popularization of Chinese National Sign Language in deaf schools is related to the professional development of deaf school teachers,great significance to the reform of teaching language in deaf schools in China,as well.Based on the theory of teacher specialization and bilingual education,this study investigated and analyzed the current status of Chinese National Sign Language among deaf school teachers,and put forward suggestions.The investigation in this study showed that: the deaf school teachers were generally interested in learning Chinese National Sign Language;The real communication ability of some teachers with sign language needed to be strengthened.Deaf school teachers fromed some objective cognition of the sign language;Teachers in deaf schools still lacked systematic knowledge of sign language grammar;Under the target of oralism,sign language still existed as an assistant methods of spoken Chinese in instruction.Based on the results of questionnaire and interview,the following conclusions can be drawn:1.Lexicon Common Expressions in Chinese National Sign Language has become the main tool book for deaf school teachers to learn sign language;2.There is still no foundation for the application of natural sign language in deaf school teaching;3.There is still a long way to go to change the teaching language in deaf schools in China.According to above conclusions,this study puts forward corresponding suggestions:To reflect objectively on the spoken language centered teaching goal of the school for the deaf,and to give full recognition of natural sign language;Increasing the proportion of deaf teachers in deaf schools to provide language models for hearing teachers and deaf students;Strengthening sign language post-service training for the teachers in deaf schools to improve their real communication skills;Pay attention to the popularize of natural sign language grammar and promote the popularization of natural sign language in deaf schools;Sign language courses should be offered in schools for the deaf to promote the recognition of sign language.
