A Study Of The Embedded Four-character Case In Modern Chinese

In Chinese,four syllable words are formed by a special way,which is to separate the two syllable words and embed the two syllable words,such as "make trouble","cut through the thorns","don’t be clear" and "smart" and so on.There has been a long history of research on the phenomenon of the four character case in Chinese,but there is still a lot of research space in the aspects of the determination of the scope of the phenomenon,the construction of the type system,and the description of the nature of grammar.On the basis of previous studies,this paper gives a clear definition of the four character block pattern,and divides it into three categories: different element block pattern,same element block pattern,and mutual block pattern.From the four perspectives of internal structure,syntactic function,semantics and pragmatics,this paper makes a comparative analysis of the three categories of block pattern.The paper consists of three parts.In the first part,we discuss the criteria and types of four character spaces.The determination process is divided into three steps: the first step is to analyze the composition of four syllable words and determine whether two syllables in the interval position are words;the second step is to analyze the semantics and determine whether the morpheme / morpheme group can be combined with the other two syllables for block combination analysis;the third step is to determine the composition mode and whether the four character case can be block combination is most suitable for block combination analysis.According to the criteria,808 four character lattices are selected and divided into three types: different element four character lattices,same element four character lattices and mutual four character lattices.The second part is to investigate the internal structure,syntactic function,semantics and pragmatics of the three types of four character case.At present,the number of allomorphs is the most and the phenomenon is the most complex.In the structure type,the partial positive structure accounts for more than half,and the predicate object structure accounts for more than one third.In syntactic analysis,there are mainly predicate morpheme and adjective morpheme,but few noun and adjective morpheme.There are two kinds of semantic types: one is the embedded words expressing the virtual meaning,and the whole meaning is mainly borne by the embedded words;the other is the embedded words expressing the real meaning,and the embedded words have the same status as the embedded words expressing the meaning,and the whole meaning is the sum of the two.In pragmatic analysis,the effect of expression is quite interesting.In terms of style,there are both elegant and popular styles.Four character lattices are embedded in the same element,accounting for 24% of thetotal amount collected at present.The components include embedded words and morpheme embedded words.Compared with the four character case with different elements,the situation of embedded words is similar in general,but the situation of embedded words is quite different.There are only two types of structure: positive structure and predicate object structure.The syntactic function is mainly predicate.There are two situations in semantic type analysis: one is that one morpheme of the embedded word is still in accordance with the grammar rules;the other is that one morpheme of the embedded word is not in accordance with the grammar rules,the latter is mainly restricted by prosody.In terms of pragmatics,it has the effect of deepening the semantic level.In terms of style,there are both elegant and popularFour character grids are embedded in each other,accounting for 11% of the total amount collected at present.There are two embedded words in the structure,the main structure type is the predicate object structure and the partial positive structure,and there are a few subject predicate structures.The syntactic function is mainly predicate.There are two kinds of semantic types: one is direct combination interpretation after restoring the embedded words;the other is combination interpretation with the help of structural auxiliary word "de / di" after restoring the embedded words.In pragmatic analysis,it has the expression effect of elegance and enhancement of language power.In terms of style,there is only elegance.The third part is a comparative analysis of three types of four character block.The similarity of embedded words and syntactic functions of the three is high.The three aspects of structure,semantics and pragmatics are quite different.And some of the three types of four character lattices can realize mutual transformation under specific circumstances.The research results of this paper have certain reference value for the study of Chinese word formation,Chinese construction grammar,prosody grammar and style grammar.
