Li Ruiqing And Higher Calligraphy Education In The Republic Of China

During the great changes in the late qing dynasty and early Republic of China,Li ruiqing is a famous calligrapher and educator.He experienced the period of abolishing the imperial examination and revitalize schools,which made him witness the ups and downs of calligraphy education.In 1905,Li ruiqing served as the supervisor(principal)of Liangjiang normal school and opened the engineering of drawing hands for the first time.Li ruiqing's profound calligraphy attainments and pioneering calligraphy education activities played an important role in promoting the development of higher calligraphy education in the Republic of China.The author starts from Li ruiqing's calligraphy creation,and his educational thoughts on calligraphy,and tries to analyze his educational activities of teaching calligraphy in the field of graphic painting.During his tenure in Liangjiang normal school,Li ruiqing cultivated the first batch of art educators in modern China and exerted a great influence on the higher education of calligraphy in the Republic of China.After entering the Republic of China,all normal universities,comprehensive universities and junior colleges gradually set up calligraphy and related courses with the change of the old and new academic system,such as the calligraphy course at the calligraphy research society of Peking University,the history of calligraphy course of the class of traditional Chinese studies of private Jinling University,and the calligraphy course of Beijing jinhua academy of fine arts.In addition,Li ruiqing's disciples such as Hu xiaoshi,Lv fengzi and Li jian also taught calligraphy in various colleges and universities.They inherited the essence of Li ruiqing's calligraphy in the teaching process.At the same time,they also formed their own unique calligraphy style,and had their own higher calligraphy education activities.They made indelible contributions for the development of higher calligraphy education which is in the Republic of China.The academic transformation period of the Republic of China is a very important part in the study of the history of higher calligraphy education in China,and also has great historical significance.
