| The academic circles have introduced many specific performances of contemporary art during the political transition in Taiwan. But rare analysis of the causes of this artistic phenomenon. In addition to the basic factors of good economic conditions in Taiwan in the 1980 s and 1990 s,the cultural policies formulated by regional governments also have an impact on Taiwan’s contemporary art. From 1986 to 2000,in order to regulate and guide Taiwan’s contemporary art,the "Cultural Construction Committee" in Taiwan formulated a series of cultural policies in accordance with the precedents of Japan and European and American countries, and dispersed cultural resources to local cultural centers.By improving the construction of art infrastructure, preparing public contemporary art institutions, and subsidizing private art spaces, the Taiwan government has adjusted from the local art market, art space, and art education to create a favorable environment for contemporary art.Under such background conditions, the value orientation of Taiwan’s contemporary art has evolved in a direction that is consistent with the political interests of regional governments, and generally presents the two characteristics of "internationalization" and "localization". |
