With the continuous strengthening of China's national strength and the continuous rising of its international status,the Chinese language continues to heat up.More and more language learners are beginning to learn Chinese and about Chinese culture.As the world's most powerful country,the United States not only ranks highly in economics and military affairs,but also is second to none in education,especially its college education.Teaching Chinese started early in the United States.It has developed rapidly,and has a wide range.Many experts and scholars all over the world have also done a lot of research on the development of Chinese teaching in the United States,and have achieved certain results.However,there is not much analysis and research on Chinese teaching in a specific university or region in the United States.Based on the current situation,the author believes that it is necessary to investigate and study the Chinese teaching situation in American universities in order to provide a reference for the improvement of teachers,textbooks,teaching methods,students and government policies which are involved in American Chinese teaching situation.Also,the author wants to provide Chinese teachers some help and reference to improve the development and promotion of international Chinese education.This thesis takes the Chinese Department of the University of South Florida as the research object,and conducts a detailed investigation and analysis from both of Chinese teaching and Chinese culture teaching.Based on the Chinese teaching situation of the Chinese Department of this university,this thesis analyzes the teaching content,form,process,and situation of teachers and students of the Chinese teaching and cultural teaching through research methods such as questionnaire surveys,interviews and classroom observations.As a result,suggestions and strategies for improving the quality of Chinese teaching in American universities are put forward.This thesis consists of five parts:Chapter ? is the introduction,which explains the origin of the research,the significance of the topic,the research review and research methods;Chapter ? is a general introduction to the Chinese teaching situation at the University of South Florida;Chapter ? analyzes the results of a questionnaire survey on Chinese teaching in the Chinese Department of this university;Chapter ? is based on the results of the questionnaire to analyze the existing problems and propose corresponding solutions;The last chapter is the conclusion,which elaborates the author's deficiencies in the research of the subject and the future research directions.The author hopes this thesis can present the current development of the Chinese Department of the University of South Florida,help people understand the current situation of Chinese teaching in the United States,and improve Chinese teaching in more American universities,and even other universities in other countries.
