Lawyers' Language (Chapter 4) English-Chinese Translation Practice Report

The text of the report is selected from the Chapter 4 of Lawyers’ Language which is a legal linguistics work.It mainly focuses on Dworkin’s ideas and the legal theories proposed by him.There are periodic sentences,separation structures and nominalization structures common in the text.So I will analyze the grammatical structure of the source text and summarize the corresponding translation methods.First,as to the analysis of periodic sentences,there are two translation strategies proposed for the invariance of the focus,position-focus retention and non-focus separation.And the part of the case study of the separation structure summarizes the subject-predicate separation,verb-object separation,and the separation of the attributive and central word that occur frequently.Finally,in the case of the nominalization structure,the emphasis is laid on the translation methods of verb nominalization and adjective nominalization.It is hoped that the report can provide a valuable reference for the translation of legal linguistics.
