Chinese appellation is an important part of Chinese learning. It is very important in people's daily life. The appellation not only reflects the interrelationship between people in social communication, but also plays a direct role in the communication effect.Social appellation as a subsystem in Chinese appellation system is more common in people's daily communication than relative appellation. This article collects relevant data on the use of social appellations by international students through questionnaires and compares them with the use of appellations by native speakers. In this way,we summarize the tendency and problems of the use of social appellations by international students. And investigate the ways of acquiring appellations for international students, the teaching needs of appellations, and the arrangement of appellations of Chinese textbook. On this basis, this article puts forward suggestions for the teaching of appellations for international students, hoping to provide guidance for international students to learn Chinese appellations more effectively and provide a unique research case for international Chinese teaching.According to the statistical analysis of the survey results of international students,we can see the following characteristics of their use of Chinese appellations:first, the appellation used by international students is relatively simple. When encountering the dilemma of addressing, international students usually rely on zero appellations and use a high proportion of them;second, regardless of the age of strangers, international students often use "Mr." and "Ms.",and the proportion is high;third, some international students use professional titles to directly refer to employees with lower professional status;Fourth, although the international students surveyed have a high level of Chinese, some students are still susceptible to interference from their mother tongue.for example, they think it is impolite to use the term "aunt" to refer to people of the same age as their parents; The survey shows that nearly half of the international students have encountered a choice dilemma when using appellations, mainly when facing strangers, especially when addressing men and women around 30-40 years old.In addition, the majority of international students(81%)believe that it is necessary to teach special address terms. In the investigation of the existing textbook appellation arrangement,we found that there are still some problems in the textbook arrangement of appellations, such as limited appellation, improper annotation of appellation, and lack of interpretation of the cultural connotation of symmetric predicate.Based on the investigation of the use of appellations by international students and the arrangement of appellations in textbooks,we propose the following suggestions for the teaching of appellations by international students:The comprehensiveness and fineness of the explanation of the appellation should be strengthened;combining appellation language teaching and cultural teaching;set up communication situations to strengthen appellation practice;urge students to take part in Chinese practice activities and learn the usage of appellations in real context.
