Jean-Pierre Jeunet is one of the most prestigious film directors in France and is a frequent judge of major European film festivals.Although his works are few in number,but he has won numerous awards.Among all these masterpieces,"Amelie","A Very Long Engagement",and "The Young and Prodigious T.S.Spivet" have made him famous all over the world.He is a very humanistic director who is good at drawing materials from real life and paying attention to the living conditions of the public.Most of the characters in his works are in lonely situations.The director uses personal and poetic artistic techniques to analyze characters' mental states kindly and gently.His works are well-made and unique among other films.This paper takes six films of Jean-Pierre Jeunet as the object of the study.From the perspective of film narratology,this paper focuses on analyzing how the theme of loneliness is constructed and how poetic rhetoric is used in his works.In addition,this paper places these films in the history of French film to explore the origin and analyze how the director inherits and develops the poetic realism of France,in order to seek for inspirations for the creation of the current realist theme films in our country.The essence of this paper is divided into the following three chapters:The first chapter analyzes how the theme of loneliness is constructed in his works from three aspects:role setting,story plot and narrative space.The second chapter demonstrates the director's poetic rhetoric strategy from three aspects:the visual image,auditory image and performance montage.The third chapter,based on the history of French film,states that films of Jean-Pierre Rene represent the inheritance of poetic realism from the social,spiritual and personal perspectives,and puts forward the statement that these films can be used for reference in the theme exploring and diversified construction of realist films in our country.
