A Preliminary Study Of Kang Jun's "Mengzi Wen Shuo"

Mencius Wenshuo is a commentary work of the Qing Dynasty.lt was written between the age of Qianlong and the age of Jiaqing.lt was the time when vario us academic trends such as the Qianjia School and the Tongcheng School,and th e other ancient commentary.They laid a solid theoretical foundation tor the comp letion of Mencius Wenshuo and made it an excellent work which combines vario us academic ideas.Kang Jun,an ordinary Confucian scholar,was diligent in scholarl y studies despite his humble official position.He writed Mencius Wenshuo after h e taught Mencius to his students.The book gives a detailed commentary on Menc ius in the form of common comments in the Ming ang the Qing Dynasties.Its m ain focus is on the writing techniques of the article.The study of this book is of great significance to the history of Mencius,the academic comprehensive and obj ective study of this book,hoping to contribute a little to the study of the above-mentioned collaterals.This paper studies Mencius Wenshuo from three perspectives:first,to know t he writer and to discuss the age of it.;Secondly,to study Kang Jun’s thoughts;Specifically,to explore how he interprets Mencius’ thoughts in his comments.Fi nally,from the perspective of essays,the book reviews are studied.I hope my reas erch can explain the valueof this book.The specific chapters are arranged as follows:The whole book consist of fi ve parts.The first part is the introduction,which mcludcsthe reason,significa-nce a nd the current research status of Mencius Wenshuo,as well as the ideasand the methods to be adopted in this paper.I hope this part can reveal the value of thi s book.The second part is the first chapter.This part mainly narrates Kang Jun’s life and works.The third part is the completion of the second chapter,which mai nly studies Kang Jun’s interpretation of Mencius.This part is divided into two di mensions:first,Mencius’s thoughts,including politicial,phil-osophical and educatio nal views;Secondly,how Kang Jun interpertes Mencius’s thought,including politi cal ones,Philosophical ones and enducational ones as well as what heritage of M encius gets from Confucius,the the influence of Mencius.The forth part is the main body of this paper.lt discussed Kang Jun’s commentary on Mencius Wensh uo from five aspects:conment code,text structure,word method,rhetoric skills and debating skills.This book covers many fields such as the commentary of the Qing Dynasty,the study of Mencius,thc study of articles and so on.It centrally represents the paradigm of the commentary of the classics of the Qing Dynsaty.Its comment and criticism are meticulous and there are many exquisite words.However,due to the constrain of the age,Kang Jun’s subjective reasons,coupled with the limitations of the style of the book,there are some shortcoming in this book.But the flaws do not hide the good,it’s still an excellent book.
