Zhang ling is the most unique one among the growing popular new immigrant writers, whose intelligence and brilliant expressions of emotion have crowned her the title of "Heroine of Overseas Female Writers". Having played an important role in overseas Chinese literature field, she has become very active in mainland China and brought an exotic flavor to the modern literature. This thesis is trying to include as complete novels as has been published by Zhang ling and to study her writing style, the linguist strategies adopted, the immigrant self-identification problem of her novels and to compare her works with other writers’.The introduction part generally introduces the research background, current research situation, studying purpose, studying methodology and significance of this thesis. It also defines the term "cross-culture" in this thesis and explains the concept of "cross".In chapter one, the author begins with the analyses of Zhang Ling’s novels, including the type of the writing immigrant manner, namely, the immigration history, immigration reality and back-to-home writing. This section focuses on the pursuit of "epic" writing style represented in Zhang Ling’s novels. She avoids grand narration but adopts to dissolve historical details in lines. The second section reveals Zhang Ling’s observation of immigration reality through her autobiographical writing and marriage writing. For example, she describes various hardships Chinese immigrants have confronted overseas, revealing a sense of tenderness. The third section mainly reviews the beautiful landscape of Wenzhou and Zaoxi, with lots of interesting stories happened in the old house. Through a sober perspective in seeing life, Zhang Ling expresses her miss of her hometown.In Chapter two, the author mainly discusses immigration identity in the crossing of eastern and western culture. And through immigration manner, this part deals with the theme that how Zhang Ling created characters, built cultural identity and expressed his feeling for motherland by immigration in different space and culture. In this paragraph, for one thing, the author will discuss the cross-cultural psychology in Zhang Ling’s works, and study his confusion and change about immigration identity from several aspects, such as marginal people mentality for people who are at the edge of society, cultural conflict in marriage and west-centralism implied in priest complex, and for other thing, the author will predict the crisis psychology in immigration identity by motherland memory in his works and analyze the world imagination and Chinese imagination from the aspect of imagology, which is to expound the influence made by memory and imagination to immigration identity in the crossing of eastern and western culture.Chapter three comes back to discuss the producing level of the novels, analyzing the "cross-culture" feature revealed in Zhang Ling’s narrative technique and linguistic approach. The first section emphasizes on the narrative technique in her novels, including double-space narrative structure, immigration history narration and visual narration. The second section pays attention to the modern Chinese writing consciousness and westernization in Chinese Writing revealed in Zhang Ling’s novels.
