This is a translation report for Chapter 4,5 of Patent Invention: Intellectual Property and the Victorian Novels(hereinafter referred to as Patent Invention). The original material introduces construction of intellectual property in the Victorian times from six chapters, starting from the vigorous development of British literature and technology in the 19 th century, the course of the intellectual property right, copyright, and patent legislation in the UK was ideologically unveiled. It not only enriched academic research on intellectual property and copyright, but also systematically introduced the public opinion of the UK on intellectual property legislation at the time and also provided vivid information for domestic intellectual property and copyright protection law, which was a translation subject with academic value and social significance. In this report, the author first briefly introduced the translation project, then interpreted and analyzed the original writer and the original text, guided by translator subjectivity theory and functional equivalence theory, and kept the original language expression and meaning as far as possible during translation. In the case of transmission of information, the original text is translated in a form acceptable to the reader of the target language.Since the original text belongs to legal literature, the difficulties in translation lie not only in translating the author's own words,culturally-loaded words, legal terms, etc.,but also how to convert long sentences under differences in English and Chinese language and cultural background knowledge, and how to maintain the original seriocomic style.Combining the translation examples,as for lexical translation, the author adopted translation methods and techniques for lexical translation, such as "Adaptation to Original Names ","Principle of Convention",and proper use of the translator's subjectivity.Speak to translation and adjustment of long sentences, the author adapted various translation methods and techniques, such as literal translation and free translation, merging and splitting, adding and deleting, etc.,aiming to display the translator's subjectivity within a reasonable range so that provides the target readers with high quality translations. After this practice of translation, the author deeply realized that the full translator'ssubjectivity plays an important role in translating legal translations of literary works within reasonable limits. At the same time, since this book belongs to academic writings which aims to popularize law, translators must translate from the perspective of the reader as far as possible to help readers understand the original text.
