Research On The Chinese Image Construction In American Dramas From The Perspective Of Framework Theory (1990-2017)

In recent years,China's rapid development has had a tremendous impact on the power structure of the international community.As an important medium of intercourse between China and America,America dramas assume some social functions,they describe the reality and export the ideology secretly by using sound and pictures.At the same time,the prevalent theory of China menace in the West has quietly changed.The changes of the times bring about the self-adjustment and transformation of people's cognitive psychology.How do America dramas present China?What issues,narrative methods and pictures do they choose to describe China?Did the framework of Chinese image change?This paper selects 20 mainstream American TV dramas that have been nominated for Emmy Awards from 1990 to 2017.With Chinese image as the research object,the author classifies and analyzes the "changed" and "unchanged" elements of Chinese image in the US drama over the past 27 years from the theory of others,and hopes to reveal the underlying factors.In the first chapter of this paper,the author analysed the ideology,narrative techniques and audio-visual elements behind the Chinese image constructed in America dramas by using the three-level framework.The second chapter describes the different images of China,found out two trait of Chinese image in America drama:negative mostly and keep changing.The third chapter explore the reason which America dramas present China like this,and discuss the actions we should take being up against this situation in the last chapter.In fact,the American drama is not consistent with the image of China,but has undergone a remarkable evolution.Chinese image has gradually gained attention and recognition from the initial marginalization and demonization.Behind the evolution of the framework is the interweaving and interaction of multiple rights.
